1st July, Current Affairs:

• The Prime Minister inaugurated the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress (ICC) in New Delhi today.
• The boards of directors of Housing Development Finance Corp Ltd (HDFC) and HDFC Bank approved the merger between the two institutions effective from 1st July 2023, creating the world’s fourth biggest bank by market value behind JP Morgan, ICBC, and Bank of America.
• Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra won the Lausanne Diamond League event with an 87.66m throw. Chopra beat his closest competitors – Germany’s Julian Weber and Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch by a narrow margin. This was Chopra’s second Lausanne Diamond League win in two years.
• As many as 26 people died and several others were injured after a bus caught fire on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway in Maharashtra. The bus was traveling from Yavatmal to Pune.
